About Women In Jazz

The partnership began in 2018 by cousins Louise Paley and Nina Fine. Prior to 2018, Louise had worked closely with young women in Jazz for a number of years – many who had the talent and skills to win places at the best Jazz college across the world. Over the years Louise kept noticing the same trends: some of these artists had little or no confidence to pursue a career in Jazz, even though they were in her eyes, some of the top talent in the UK. One day she thought: I really want to help these artists; champion their talents and inspire the next generation of women.

Louise and Nina met at the iconic Premises Cafe in London to brainstorm ideas for a Women in Jazz radio show. At Soho Radio, they met artists from different backgrounds and Jazz expressions to find out about their stories. Flash forward to October 2020, and Women in Jazz has an online community made up of 8,000+ Artists; programmed sell-out shows at Ronnie Scotts, Wilderness and Love Supreme Festival featuring world-class musicians such as Zara Mcfarlane and Liane Carol; run successful public series of DJ and Radio workshops led by preeminent women in all aspects of the music industry; led masterclasses at Guildhall School and Tomorrow’s Warriors to help artists get to the next stages of their careers, and established strong relationships with music tastemakers Worldwide and Jazz FM.
